China, Myanmar seek further economic cooperation

The 2020 China-Myanmar Economic Cooperation and Development Forum was held in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province on Sept 8, as part of the ongoing 2020 CIFIT.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Myanmar, and the two countries are using the occasion as an opportunity to boost investment and trade cooperation.

Long Yuxiang, executive president of China International Cultural Communication Center, introduced the center's cultural exchange efforts with more than 130 countries and expressed willingness to serve and promote economic and cultural exchange between China and Myanmar as well as boost the construction of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor.

U Myo Thant Pe, ambassador of Myanmar to China, introduced the country's favorable investment policies and expressed hope that more Chinese companies will invest in Myanmar.

Yao Jingyuan, special researcher of the Counsellors' Office of the State Council, analyzed the current economic situation and noted that China will leverage its large-scale domestic market to open wider to the outside world and play an active role in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Yao also predicted that economic and trade cooperation between the two countries will continue to improve.

Wu Sheng, secretary-general of China-Myanmar Economic and Cultural Exchange Center, said that the center has always promoted investment cooperation between the two countries in vocational education.

The China-Myanmar Vocational Eduction Industry Alliance, established by the center, has received positive responses from companies and relevant institutions in the two countries, according to Wu.

The alliance will gatherresources from China and Myanmar to help improve vocational education and the quality of life in Myanmar.
