The China Xiamen International Optics Fair opened last week at the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. Approximately 500 well-known eyewear brands from more than 100 companies hosted booths in the 25,000-square-meter exhibition hall.

This is the first year for the event to be hosted in Xiamen, which is home to 120 eyeglass manufacturing companies and dozens of brand name and e-commerce eyeglass firms.

Local firms dominate the sunglass market, capturing 80 percent ofthe domestic market and more than half of the global market.　　 

Xiamen-based eyeglass companies last year reported a combined annual output of approximately 11 billion yuan.

Two local eyeglass companies notched more than one billion yuan of annual output, with an additional three firms generating more than 500 millionyuan and 20 companies producing more than 100 million yuan in output.
