Workshop on Achieving Sustainability through Connectivity for Resilient ASEAN Seas held in Xiamen

As one of over 30 International Conferences of the 2024 East Asian Seas Congress and the World Ocean Week in Xiamen, the workshop on Achieving Sustainability through Connectivity for Resilient ASEAN Seas was held in in Xiamen, east China's Fujian Province on November 6, 2024. 

Hosted by the ASEAN Center for Biodiversity (ACB), the workshop  aims to share experiences in marine sustainability, knowledge acquisition and networking among ASEAN members, as well as to address new challenges in global biodiversity conservation. 

According to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), global targets are by 2030 include 30 percent conservation of land, sea and inland waters, 30 percent restoration of degraded ecosystems. 

In order to achieve this goal, ASEAN members need to strengthen cooperation and work together to establish larger areas for conservation and protection of waters. 

During the workshop, scholars and experts from Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Japan exchange opinions and shared experiences on the subjects on marine protected area (MPA) network, sustainable fishery, and marine ecosystem, under the main topics of Achieving Sustainability in the ASEAN Seas and Connectivity for Resilient ASEAN Seas. 

The workshop provided a platform for ASEAN member countries to share experiences and promote sustainable development in ASEAN seas.
