As one of over 30 International Conferences of the 2024 East Asian Seas Congress and the World Ocean Week in Xiamen, the 13th East HAB Symposium was held in Xiamen, east China's Fujian Province on November 7, 2024. 

As a co-chair of 13th East HAB, Professor Lu Douding from the Second Institute of Oceanography, MNR, delivered an opening remark in which he reviewed the history and development of the event. 

Professor Lv Songhui from the University of Tokyo and Professor  Mitsunori Iwatakifrom Jinan University delivered keynote speeches on the management made on harmful algae blooms (HABs) in China and Japan. 

Delegates  from China, Japan, and South Korea also made thematic reports on the  HAB status of each Country in recent years. 

The committee also discussed change of the personnel and reviewed the the future work content. It is announced that the 14th East HAB Symposium will be held in Japan in 2026 

Hosted by the Second Institute of Oceanography, MNR, the symposium focused on the discussion on the status of red tide in East Asia under the background of "Ocean Decade", aiming to share HAB information and collaborate in the HAB research activities among scientists in the East Asian region.
