As one of over 30 International Conferences of the 2024 East Asian Seas Congress (EAS) and World Ocean Week in Xiamen, the Mobilizing Actions Beyond the 30 x 30 Commitment Through Institional Partnerships was held in Xiamen, East China’s Fujian province on November 7, 2024. 

Hosted by the Blue Nature Alliance, this side event is intended to encourage all Parties to consider the need for partnership and engagement beyond initial commitments towards implementation and impact.  

At the session, seven scholars and experts from Indonesia, the Philippines and the United States  discussed two key challenges for enabling partnerhips. One is knowing the right set of stakeholders for specific challenges, and the other is institutionlizing and incentivizing participation to ensure the inclusion of all relevant stakeholders. 

The session promoted vertical, horizontal and spatial integration to support effective ocean governance and strengthen policy coherence across sectors with full recognition of the land-sea interface and the connectivity of ecosystems.
