Xiamen, Southeast China's Fujian Province, has witnessed a surge in its convention and exhibition industry throughout 2024, showing remarkable vitality. From January to November, the city hosted a total of 166 exhibitions, generating economic output worth approximately 28.7 billion yuan ($3.9 billion).

The convention and exhibition industry serves as a barometer for economic growth and a window to showcase city image.

Statistics from the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition revealed that from January to November, Xiamen held 166 exhibitions with a total area of around 2.35 million square meters, marking a 14.58% year-on-year increase. Additionally, the city hosted 4,145 conferences that attracted about 740,000 attendees, reflecting a 2.57% year-on-year growth.

In the first 11 months, the economic output reaped from the convention and exhibition industry amounted to about 28.7 billion yuan, up 10.64% compared with the previous year.

In December, Xiamen is projected to host 13 commerce and trade exhibitions, alongside art and calligraphy exhibitions, further amplifying the multiplier effect of the convention and exhibition economy.

The 2024 China (Xiamen) Jewelry and Jade Exhibition took place from December 6th to 9th at the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center, offering a platform for exchanges and procurements in the field.

From December 18th to 20th, the Xiamen International Textile Fabrics and Accessories Exhibition served as a crucial platform for the garment fabric and accessory industry to showcase, exchange and trade.

The Xiamen Animation Industry Expo is set to take place from December 27th to 29th at the Xiamen Fliport C&E Center. It will feature popular sections for independent games, animation, trendy IP products, Hanfu or traditional Chinese costumes and e-sports.

This year, Xiamen initiated the 2024 Annual Selection of Brand Exhibitions and Promising Exhibitions and conducted revision work of policies for the convention and exhibition industry, promptly disbursing special funds for the development of the sector.

This reportedly benefited 71 enterprises and 113 projects in the sector in the first half of this year.
