Sina Weibo recently included Xiamen on its annual list of internationally influential inbound tourism cities, a ranking that also included Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

The assessment of nationwide inbound tourism hubs covered areas such as big data analytics, overseas IP searches, foreign influencer reviews and inbound tourism promotion.

Xiamen last year hosted more than 2.3 million overnight international tourists, up 200 percent year-on-year. Its popularity in overseas online searches consistently ranks among the top five Chinese cities.

Xiamen officials said that they are working to buttress its status as a transit hub between southeast and northeast Asia and between Oceania and Europe and America. Xiamen is working with Shenzhen, Guilin and Guiyang, as well as Nanping and Longyan to solidify its status as a premier entry-point city.
