Latest from China international investment promotion in Macao

The head of Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition Affairs has given then latest news on the 2016 China International Fair for Investment & Trade, which has a 100,000-square-meter exhibition area in the International Convention and Exhibition Center in Xiamen, Fujian province, Sept 8 – 11, noting that it is expected to attract 4,500 companies from around the world and will house 4,000 booths.
Wang Qiongwen, who made the announcement at a road show in Macao on June 29, went on to say that there will be 35,000 investment projects for participants to examine, as well as 3,000 matchmaking events.
The road show was the work of the fair organizers with help from Ha Mun Friendship General Association of Macao and had Ni Chao, Xiamen’s deputy mayor, Jackson Chang, president of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, Kou Hoi In, head of the Macao Chamber of Commerce, and Zeng Zhilong, president of the Ha Mun Assoc. taking part.
Wang also explained that the fair will have exhibitions in three main areas – investment, industrial cooperation, and products – and many forums and seminars focusing on free trade policies, regional finance cooperation, the Internet Plus, and innovation and entrepreneurships over the four days period.
To help the fair act as a comprehensive site for multilateral economic cooperation, the organizers will arrange for research reports on investment to be released during the fair.
Ni, the deputy mayor, pointed to the fair’s achievements in promoting inbound and outbound investment over the past few years, saying that it has attracted a total of 3,500 multinationals in its 18 sessions and more than $200 billion in inbound investment.
The MTIPI’s Chang addressed the gathering by describing Macao’s continued participation in all the past sessions and explaining Macao’s role for this year’s fair as the Guest Region of Honor, as well as some promotion events to show Macao’s trade, tourism and culture and to increase cooperation with Fujian’s enterprises in maritime industries, the service trade and youth entrepreneurships. He also said that Macao wants to leverage its economic and cultural ties with Portuguese speaking countries to help Chinese enterprises expand their presences in that market.
The China International Fair for Investment & Trade takes place in Xiamen, every September, with China’s State Council backing and the approval of UFI, an association of leading tradeshow organizers and fairground owners around the world.
