Xiamen ready for international guests, says deputy mayor
2016/8/29
Preparations for this year’s China International Fair for Investment & Trade (CIFIT) are going well, according to a spokesperson for its organizing committee.
Authorities in its host city, Xiamen, have pledged to provide thorough services and tighter security. Mayor Pei Jinjia will preside over a coordinating committee that oversees 13 work groups to take care of vehicle scheduling, accommodation arrangements and security measures, among other tasks, according to the city’s deputy mayor, Ni Chao.
Speaking at a press conference hosted by China’s Commerce Ministry, the fair’s sponsor, on Aug 23, Ni said that the city plans to impress international guests with its tidiness, city planning, modern architecture and “lush greenery”. She also noted that Xiamen’s air quality ranked third among 74 Chinese cities surveyed in the first half of 2016.
Ni listed actions the city has taken to improve its transportation capacity and ease traffic congestion, and to beef up the handling capacity and service level of the hospitality industry.
Xiamen is currently deepening reforms to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship, according to Ni. One such reform included the removal of fees charged on business operators and the simplifying of administrative procedures to create a more favorable environment for international investors.
The reforms have helped the city’s GDP grow 9.4 percent in the first seven months of 2016, compared to the same period in the previous year. Its financial revenue rose by 12.2 percent and contracted inbound investment by 120 percent during the same period.
