The Big Sanya Tourism Circle, an important economic region in Hainan province, had a fruitful first day of business at this year’s China International Fair for Investment and Trade, Sept 8.
The Circle, an area comprised of Sanya and the neighboring counties of Ledong, Baoting and Lingshui, put pen to paper on an impressive 31 investment agreements worth 53.5 billion yuan ($8 billion).
The organization aims to develop regional infrastructure, accelerate the tourism industry, broaden public services, and continue to enhance the growth of local industries in these four island regions.
At a recent meeting covering Hainan affairs, the mayor of Sanya, Wu Yanjun, was keen to emphasize a shift of focus towards the development of Big Sanya Tourism Circle.
Wu also laid out the city’s major tasks in the coming five years. These include building 14 modern industrial parks, developing the region’s creative sectors, and promoting new modes of tourism that engage with industries such as technology, health, and culture.
The mayor stressed the importance of accelerating the development of Haitang Bay in the east and Yazhou Bay in the west. Also on the agenda were a range of ecological restoration projects, a move to strengthen city governance, the need improve the quality of local housing, and upgrade educational and medical resources.
The hope is that in the coming years an increasing number of businesses will recognize Sanya and its environs as a prime location for investment.
