The China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) is a significant platform for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), which enables the organization to share its goals and plans with others, said Li Yong, director-general of UNIDO on Sept 8, first day of the 19th CIFIT.

Li mentioned the important role of investment in boosting industrial development and called on countries all over the world to enhance financial cooperation.

He also spoke highly of China’s role in global investment and said that many countries have benefited from China’s economic growth. UNIDO is one such beneficiary, thanks to its 40-year partnership with the Chinese government and businesses.

Li acknowledged that many developing countries are learning from China’s successful efforts at economic development; such as establishing special economic zones, opening-up to foreign investment, bringing in advanced foreign technologies, encouraging companies to expand into foreign markets, and supporting private enterprise.

He also highlighted China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and how it is a driving force for the development of the provinces and countries along the Silk Road, as well as for the wider global economy. He vowed that UNIDO would give stronger support to the development of technologies, investment promotion and business development, helping facilitate the implementation of the initiative.
