CIFIT highlights growing trend for green investment
2016/9/11
The growing popularity of green projects among investors has been one of the biggest trends at the 19th China International Fair for Investment and Trade currently taking place in Xiamen, Fujian province.

Booths advertising low-carbon industries and technologies, and other emerging industries such as e-commerce, graphene and tourism, have been particularly prominent during this year’s CIFIT, which is widely regarded as one of the most important barometers for global capital and investment flows into China.

Areas including energy conservation, environmental protection, new energy, Internet finance and e-commerce are increasingly favored by investors, while traditional energy-intensive, high-carbon-emitting industries are increasingly struggling to attract investment, said Li Peiji, president of Orchid Asia Investment Group.

This is also reflected in recent data from the Tokyo Stock Exchange. According to a spokesperson from the exchange, 75 of the 100 largest IPOs during the last year have been for firms in non-traditional green industries.

According to Li Yong, director general of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, many financial and investment organizations have made environmental protection a core guiding principle in their investment decision making. Taking environmental issues into account is effective in guiding the healthy allocation of economic resources and promoting the sustainable development of society.
