Mixed reality technology creates buzz at 19th CIFIT
2016/9/22
CN3WM, the company charged with providing 3D codes for more than 100,000 people at this year’s CIFIT, wowed audiences with their display of mixed reality (MR) technology.
Vice-minister of commerce Wang Shouwen was among the high-profile delegates to be treated to a demonstration of MR at the company’s exhibition booth, located in the “Talents, Capital and Projects” area.
While augmented reality overlays virtual objects on the user’s real world environment, MR (also known as hybrid reality) allows interaction between virtual objects and the physical world.
It could, for example, allow you to interact with virtual characters in your living room or turn your office into the greatest workstation imaginable.
One of CN3WM’s focuses is to combine 3D codes with MR technology to make them interactive. It established a lab for this particular purpose and recruited top technological experts in this area worldwide.
The company’s founder, Chen Shengxu, said he was attracted to settle in Xiamen by the city’s talent projects, which reward great leadership and entrepreneurship.
After learning under the stewardship of Ni Guangnan, a renowned academician at Chinese Academy of Engineering and an expert in information technology, Chen became interested in the potential applications of the emerging MR technology.
Chen led a research team at the Shenzhen University’s College of Optoelectronic Engineering to develop the 3D information encoding technology, which makes it possible for 3D codes to contain five times the amount of information per unit area than their 2D equivalents.
