Xiamen will host the ninth BRICSSummit in September. The event is designed to foster cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries and to boost the global economy.

Established in 2006, this year's summitwill be the ninth edition for the event. Items on the agenda for the summit include areas of practical cooperation, globalgovernance, personal and cultural exchangesand the promotion of mechanismsto forge more extensive partnerships.

The new BRICS Summit logo is designed to suggest both a full set of sails and a rotating earth. The five primary colors represent the BRICS countries of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Event organizers said that the logo symbolizes a boat sailing towards abright future. It is also meant to convey the importance of BRICS countries inglobal political and economical affairs.The logo echoes this year's summit theme of a "stronger partnership for abrighter future." The nautical element alsoalludes to Xiamen's role as a key maritime port.

Below the logo are the words BRICS 2017 China and a red seal withthe characters for China, which currently hosts the group's chairmanship. Theseal uses a classic calligraphic style in a nod to traditional Chinese culture.
