The World Ocean Week (WOW) in Xiamen 2019 is scheduled to kick off in Xiamen, East China’s Fujian province on November 1-7, according to the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Ocean Development.

The week-long event is the coastal city’s effort to build a maritime community with a shared future and to implement the Belt and Road Initiative.

A series of forums, exhibitions, and ocean culture activities will be held during the 2019 WOW.

Themed on “Blue Partnership for a Maritime Community with a Shared Future”, the 2019 Xiamen International Ocean Forum is expected to welcome 500 participants from about 40 countries and regions along the Belt and Road. They are experts, scholars, government officials, and representatives of enterprises and international institutions.

Besides the main forum, sub-forums, workshops, and industry matchmaking events will be held at the same time.

Ocean-related exhibitions are an indispensable part of the World Ocean Week in Xiamen. This year’s edition will include four major exhibitions. They are the Commercialization Fair for Marine Science & Technology Achievements 2019, the 12th China (Xiamen) International Recreational Fishery, the 2019 International Diving Salvage & Ocean Engineering Equipment Exhibition, and the 12th China (Xiamen) International Boat Show.

Marine culture activities will be organized simultaneously from across six districts of Xiamen such as a kite flying festival, a ship model exhibitions, beach sports events, sailing races, ocean sciences open houses, and a study tour.

These activities aim to popularize the knowledge of oceans, help the citizen enhance their marine environmental awareness, and promote the development of marine culture industry.
